 What is Amblyopia?

  • Amblyopia is a decrease in vision development that happens when the brain does not get normal stimulation from the eye

  • It develops when there’s a breakdown in how the brain and the eye work together, and the brain can’t recognize the sight from 1 eye.

  • National Eye Institute estimates 4.5 million children with preventable vision loss have amblyopia

Why should children get their vision screened?

According to the WHO, 80% of all visual impairment can be prevented or cured

19 million children worldwide are visually impaired

Amblyopia, more commonly known as lazy eye, is the #1 cause of preventable, yet permanent, vision loss in children in the USA

Amblyopia must be identified by age 8 to obtain the best treatment outcomes (time sensitive)

As many as 1 in 20 children can only see out of one eye

Healthy eyes are important to a child’s development and education. Vision loss can also limit career opportunities as an adult.
